I think this is what being in a Uniformed Group is all about.

This year hasn't been a fantastic year. The Corps didn't exactly do so fantastically well in various aspects, such as competition, camp trainings, administrative duties etc.

Die.

But it's probably because of this "near fatal" experience that really brought everyone back and closer together, and showed what being in St. John really means.

For one, I have never seen my juniors being so committed to save the Corps. I always lived under the impression that HCISJAB has been on the decline all the while. I'm glad that these bunch of people proved me wrong. They have really shown me what it means to be passionate and concerned about CCA, because this will not only impact themselves but all 77 men of our Corps. I guess it will be quite safe to have the Corps in their hands now =)

What impressed me further was how seniors were willing to sacrifice their own time and come back to help with training and admin duties, even to the extent of gong for Public Duties. I am gladthat even though they have left the Corps, they did not forget what the Corps has done for them. This is the epitome of 饮水思源.

Even if our Corps failed in anything else, I am glad that this will be one thing that we can all be proud of. That we don't need to proclaim "Brotherhood" everywhere we go but show what true spirit means in times of crisis.

Today was an absolutely guailan day.
Guailan.

Morning, woke up guailanly by sending an email first thing in the morning.
Managed to push PW meeting off to tomorrow because I know I have things on, which is damn guailan cos I hardly do such things.
Did my scripts though, which actually is also quite guailan.

Supposed to meet junweng at 1340 but apparently his tuition guailanly ended 1 hour earlier.
As a result I had to jump into some random clothes, no time to do hair and just went straight for AMK.
Lunched, and after that ate random deserts (BEANCURD + CHARSIEW PAU, SERIOUSLY) and I don't know how we managed to sit htere and talk for so long in that hot room, which is guailan.
His mum came, and somehow everything just ended abruptly guailanly.
Especially it ended at a guailan time around 4+.

So I made the guailan choice by going home, even though I need to leave within like an hour + time to go esplanade.
Despite the heavy rain, I guailanly decided to go.

Sat there and watched the malay dance. totally unimpressed. guailan.

wayang topeng next. I don't know what made me so guailan to sit there with the rest of the illiterate population of Singapore even though it said "cancelled due to unfavourable weather". Obviously everyone's still hoping for the best, but I don't know what gave me the passion to sit there for 45mins just to watch wayang topeng.
(Oh, but it was nice when everyone clapped like mad when they decided to carry on)

wayang topeng. and i was feeling absolutely guailan because it was like 8+ and I haven't had dinner.

and i dun even noe why im writing all this here on my blog which has never been used as a "diary".
perhaps im feeling guailan.

THIS is normally what happens after a camp.

I can't put my thoughts in words.
I guess I'm really privileged to be selected for this camp, even though Malay Dance has only officially became part of my life this year.
And through this camp, I have learnt that dance is not just about moving your arms and legs; it is also about how you should be as a person, about an individual/a culture's value system, how discipline and leadership can make a difference, and above all, how passion can drive.

Spatial Awareness
Street Funk
Indian Classicial
Malay Dance
Hip Hop (again)
I'm listing them down because I don't want to forget.

I don't know how long I can survive in Malay Dance... I mean, being one of the few Chinese doing Malay Dance isn't exactly an easy feat. And even if I sign up for courses outside of school, I might not exactly find one that I can fit in culturally.

But this camp's exposure is not just about learning of techniques... Above it all is a message about passion and about values. It's just like back in St. John, where even though we teach First Aid and Footdrill, what is even more important are the intangibles that you ultiamtely bring away after 4 years of cadet life.

I'm glad I bravely signed up despite my PW (sorry guys). I think this is something that when I grow older, I will look back and acknowledge it as part of the happiest moments of my life.

Special acknolwedgements to all Malay Dancers who have helped me sooooooo much in builidng up my basics to bring back to Hwa Chong.

Youth Leadership Dance Camp - Day 1

Anyway, I think today was the first time I missed school in all of my 17 years of life to attend a MOE camp.

The camp totally exceeded my expectations.

Classical Ballet, Modern ballet, Hip Hop. 1.5h each in ONE day.

It was so much my calves kinda hurt a little right now. And don't even mention my back and right arm. But it was fun la!

What's more important is to observe their teaching styles and the leadership in controlling a class of like near-90 people. That's imba.
AND compare it to the discipline (or lack thereof) during malay dance training.

Even the facilitators, like Ms. Debbie Heng, who's forever hyped-up, never stage-shy, knows exactly what to say, never stumbles upon her words and is just forever getting the ball rolling. If I have half her speaking ability I will get a confirmed A for my OP!

Also, I got to see first-hand the definition of pro: people like Chua Yi Yi and Tan Jia Ling. I don't intend to do that kind of stretching. Ever. I think my joints will split into two.

Tomorrow, I intend to look for people like Nasyiba or Shasha to brush up on my Malay dance basics =).
For now, if you would excuse me, I will need to update my reflections log.

And my next venture after changing my blogskin ~~yesterday~~ earlier today it's time to get rid of some irrelevant links.

Yufan the Lucky

Let me share with you the Legend of Yufan the Lucky..

It was a sweltering hot day, 23rd September 2009. A Wednesday means that Yufan will end his lessons by 1100, and have more than enough time to spare until 1300, when he can leave the school campus.

So when the clock striked 12, Yufan decided that he should hop over to the SALT Centre located at the other end of the campus so as to retrieve some First Aid materials to return to the College Council. It was torturos to wait for a reply sms from his teacher for approval, and when it finally arrived, the weather wa already more than simply unbearable. Yufan decided to go for a little washing-up, and give his specs a little washing.

All was done in a moment, and after passing the First Aid materials over, Yufan was prepared to go home. There was just a slight hoo-haa a moment ago over Jieyi's missing wallet, which she accidentally forgot at the canteen bench, and which she didn't realise until she reached the bsu stop. And Yufan was about to repeat history.

To think Yufan almost walked out of the campus before he suddenly realised that my spectacles was missing. And immediately he knew where they were. He had to travel to the other end of the campus again.

Yufan had intended to leave the campus via the High School, but just as he was almost reaching the SALT Centre, his memory brought him a piece of good news: He had to go retrieve some forms from the College Reception. So happily after a long wait for the High School administrative staff to get him his keys, he went back to retrieve his specs, and returned the keys.

The Sun was murderous, but he was fortunate enough to reach the College Reception before he died. More great news waited him: the College Staff claimed that no such form exists and that all he had to do is to write a letter to support his claim.

And all that travelling made Yufan such a lucky boy today.

Anyway while CCA has been suspended for most people as of now,
I'm still actively involved in preparing for Teachers' Day performance.
First practice at audi yesterday. Feeling good about it.
Everyone's saying that we will make a bombastic impact on Teachers' Day =)

My emotions are getting the better of me.

Poor results + Fatigue + Depressants don't really add up to a pretty pleasant day.

Sooner or later I will need to see the School Counsellor for help.

It's pretty blah to see two classes LOA-ed because of H1N1,
inclusive of Wan Chu, who will have to pull out of PJT.

So now all that we have left is 3 guys and 5 girls.
It's pretty screwed, to see that the virus is spreading like wildfire and if any of us gets it, that's it for PJT.

We've trained really hard for it, mind you, so nononononononononononono way are we pulling out of it after all these stuff.
